Raquel’s Fight Against Colorectal Cancer

Hi, my name is Stevie and I created this Go-Fund Me account for my dear friend Raquel who was diagnosed with Colorectal cancer on December 23, 2022 after it had been discovered that she had gastrointestinal bleeding with 2/3 blood loss requiring a blood transfusion. A colonoscopy and biopsy both concluded a malignant growth in the sigmoid colon of the large intestine. Raquel had surgery on February 1st and has been in the hospital recovering. The pathology report regarding what stage her cancer will not be available for another week, so in the meantime Raquel will have to wait to learn what treatment she will need.

Raquel is the second oldest of her 6 siblings and is an aunt to her many nieces and nephews. Raquel has a passion for helping others which is demonstrated through her profession as an LCSW. Her many friends and close family know of her love for baseball games, Dodgers, traveling overseas, long road trips and her ability to turn any experience into an outrageous story with self-deprecating humor. Raquel has never shied away from personal challenges and this fight against cancer is no different. This has been an unfortunate event in her life that has required her to take unpaid medical leave from work as Licensed Clinical Social Worker at Richard Donovan State Prison which has led me to create this on her behalf to help pay for medical and living expenses while receiving treatment. Prior to working at RJD, Raquel had worked with teens on probation providing mental health and substance use counseling and had also spent 6 month working in Texas providing crisis and counseling services to migrant children before accepting a position at RJD as an LCSW. Raquel is quick with the wit and has a dark, sarcastic and mildly inappropriate sense of humor that everyone comes to appreciate and love and has remained true to herself throughout her diagnosis.
