Help Craig get back on his feet.

My brother suffered a few health problems last year leaving him unable to work. He lost his medical insurance and had to spend the year on a very tight budget, doing some online work to make ends meet. Just when he was feeling fit and healthy and ready to return to work he was crippled by an ever increasing lower back pain.  At times it left him unable to walk for longer than a few minutes at a time. After multiple doctors visits, physio treatments and 6 chiro sessions an x-ray was performed and they discovered that an undiagnosed injury sustained while intervening in an argument 8 years back had been aggravated when he fell into an uncovered manhole while photographing at  some ruins.

Unfortunately the GP wrongly assumed it was a mild sprain but the vertebrate where the coccyx and spine join had caved in and compressed the disc which was the reason for the nerve pain in his leg and stabbing pain in his back.

After six months of not being treated the angle of the injury had increased.

Finally after becoming increasingly bedbound my brother was referred to a neurosurgeon. Initially it was suspected that surgery was needed but after an expensive MRI and after the neurosurgeon learning of Craig’s financial situation it was decided to try a non-invasive treatment using nerve pain blockers, analgesics and anti-inflammatories along with lumbar manipulation and physiotherapy. He will also have to see a psychotherapist – it is as we always suspected: Craig is bonkers. (In fact he needs to learn to relax.)

Obviously the cost of this treatment would be a fraction of what the surgery would be but if not performed correctly the neurosurgeon warned that he would be operating in three months. Craig is still unemployed as he cannot work while in so much pain and the cost of the treatment while cheaper still includes expenses such as a monthly cost of medication running in excess of R2000, specialist physios over R500/session and appointments with his neurosurgeon including further xrays and scans. Other costs including the basic costs of living, transport, extra rehabilitating care…the list seems endless but for this to be  success and for Craig to return to the way of life where he can enjoy living healthily and happily and get back to his career, we need your help..

I have teased Craig about his 500 "friends” on Facebook saying "I just don't believe all these people are really your friends." Now is your chance to prove me wrong! If everyone could donate whatever they can  it would be such a big help and bring us closer to Craig being back to his old brilliant self.
