OUR KIDS BELONG WITH FAMILY is a four year global campaign that aims to raise awareness on the international human rights abuse of Indigenous Children and their families navigating the trauma of child removal by the Australian nation state.

We’ve created this page because of the abundance of people wanting to contribute to this important dialogue.

It has led our family to think about how we can continue to build upon our mission and further grow awareness - beyond just being a social media campaign.

Why do OUR KIDS BELONG WITH FAMILY?

From the years of research that came out of our own family's experience, it was clear that welfare bodies nationally have not been following their own Indigenous centred guidelines and protocols. Today Indigenous children continue to be forcibly removed without immediate or extended families as an option to be kinship carers.

On the 13th of February 2008, former Australian prime minister Kevin Rudd acknowledged and apologised to the STOLEN GENERATIONS.

“We apologise for the laws and policies of successive Parliaments and governments that have inflicted profound grief, suffering and loss on these our fellow Australians. We apologise especially for the removal of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children from their families, their communities and their country.”

SORRY MEANS, YOU DON’T DO IT AGAIN!

Yet since the national apology, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children are still being forcibly removed in increasing numbers from complete connection to family, home and culture.

Our message is very clear:

Welfare bodies urgently need to follow the guidelines and protocols that they’ve put in place.

Our Australian government has caused so much trauma, pain and suffering that can not be undone. Healing childhood trauma is important for a fulfilling and happy life. Without it, children cannot feel safe and secure.
