Ratcliffe Family in Paraguay
Donation protected
Originally from the North East of England, Peter and Evi Ratcliffe moved to Paraguay with their children to share the simple and powerful Gospel of Jesus with the unreached. They travel the length and breadth of the country reaching remote villages, cooking up huge pots of food and then sharing the beautiful message of Jesus and His love. The Ratcliffe family see the young and old giving their lives to the Lord. They also pray for the sick and have seen many miracles of healing as God displays His love to these precious people. They have been in Paraguay for almost 5 years, and as they continue to minister to and disciple these communities, they are beginning to see real transformation.
They are on the front lines of a spiritual battle field, taking enemy ground and bringing the Kingdom of God. But it is not without enemy resistance that they see the fruits of their work increase. This recently took the form of a horrific crash in which the family were involved. Peter, Evi and their children Emily, Joy, Rebecca, Joseph & Naomi were traveling to pray for the resurrection of a lady who had recently passed away from cancer when their vehicle hit a stationary, unlit lorry right in their lane on the highway. Tragically, Emily Grace, their precious 15 year old daughter and a faithful servant of Jesus, did not survive the crash. Even though this is such a difficult time, we know that she is with Jesus with her crown in Heaven.
There have been many miracles in the weeks that have passed since the accident on the 13th June. Whilst we cannot ever fully understand why this incident took place, God has shown his mercy and faithfulness continually since. For example, in hospital Peter was confirmed to have fractured his neck in 2 places yet miraculously, just over 2 weeks later, the doctors told him that they could no longer see any signs of these fractures. Joy, 11 years old, whose scans showed more bleeding on the brain than Peter, has been completely healed. Her eye was also initially thought to be damaged through the head injury but is perfect. Rebecca, 9 years old, who was thought to have internal injuries, is also completely healed. The two youngest children, Joseph, 4 years and Naomi, 2 years old, suffered cuts and bruises, due to the impact it is a miracle they had no further serious injuries.
Daniel, their eldest, now 20 years old, was not in the vehicle at the time of the accident and has been a constant help and strength to the whole family since, practically organising many things, praying constantly and never losing faith in his Almighty Father in Heaven, even despite the loss of his beloved sister, and best friend Emily.
Emily made such an impact on the people of Paraguay that over 450 people attended the celebration service of her life. Emily had a passion and dream to become a doctor or midwife, to help in some way with the lack of medical facilities and poor knowledge about health and hygiene. She demonstrated Jesus’ love so vividly by caring for little children that were abandoned and rejected, many of whom were completely transformed by her life-giving love. Adults and village leaders were also transformed through her example, taking in these little children and caring for them as a result.
The whole family are determined to remain faithful and press on with God’s calling even stronger, despite having to lay their beautiful daughter Emily to rest and terribly missing her love, servant-heartedness and compassion. This is such a powerful demonstration of God’s love for His children in Paraguay that even a terrible event like this cannot deter them from their work.
There are some practicalities to deal with as a result of the accident:
• They are coming to the UK in August 2019 to visit dear family and hold a memorial service for Emily’s precious life
• Although their insurance should cover 75% of the replacement vehicle costs ($50,000), to date they are still without one, which is vital for their ministry, so any contribution towards this would be greatly appreciated.
If you would like to support the Ratcliffe's work of bringing the Gospel of hope to the beautiful people of Paraguay, please join your prayers with ours for miraculous peace, comfort and strength to continue to fill Peter, Evi, Daniel and the younger children.
If you would like to contribute financially to their work, or to the practicalities mentioned above you can give via this page, or via their blog here: http://www.uponthewaters.org.
