Ratu Peni Wainiqolo ❤️

On Sunday 9th June, Peni suffered a major brain injury during the NSW Rugby Country State Championships in Tamworth.

During a tackle, he suffered a vertebral dissection and subsequently had multiple major bi-lateral strokes. After being put on life support, air lifted to John Hunter hospital in Newcastle and urgent brain surgery, his family was told to expect the worst and hope for the best.

His family have been holding onto every little bit of hope and strength, and praying for his health. He continues to defy medical odds and has achieved the most awe-inspiring milestones. He is still in a very serious condition and has plenty of hurdles to overcome, but is breathing on his own.

Peni and his family have been surrounded with the most unbelievable generosity, compassion and kindness this week, and they are truly overwhelmed by the positivity, love, care and support they have been shown. His family know there are no words that amount to the gratitude they feel, but offer a very heartfelt thank you to everyone who has helped them find strength and courage, and they ask you to please keep Peni in your thoughts and prayers ❤️

Peni has a long road to recovery ahead of him, and he will find strength from having his loved ones close to him. He is currently away from home in Newcastle, at John Hunter hospital, with his partner, Philippa by his side. His partner and the embassy are trying hard to organise passports and visas for his parents to come over from Fiji, to be with him, and are praying he will be strong enough to soon transfer to a hospital closer to home.

At this stage, his family are focused on his survival and recovery, however there will be an expensive road to rehabilitation ahead of him. If there is any support you can offer Peni and his family, to alleviate the burden of these costs, they would be eternally grateful. ❤️
