Wheelchair for Justin Embry

Donation protected
I am writing on behalf of my uncle, Justin Embry.  Justin has always been the "fun uncle".  He is always joking about something, willing to play with the kids and grandkids and very active.  He loves his dog Lexi and would take her long walks every morning.   He is an Army veteran and met his wife, Tina, while serving in the Army.  He is a devoted husband that has taken care of Tina and it is so obvious the love they still have for each other all of these years later.

On May 6, 2015, while at work,  he had a severe hemorrhagic stroke that left him in the ICU for weeks completely incapacitated and in the hospital and rehabilitation centers even longer.  He is unable to move his right arm and his right leg on his own.  He has been in a wheelchair since he has been able to sit upright.   Nine months later he is still at a rehab center (Transitional Living Center) in Galveston, TX.  Since May he has not been able to return home due to his traumatic brain injury caused by the stroke and his inability to walk unassisted.  He currently has a wheelchair that is not the appropriate size/proportion for his body and this makes it very difficult for him to get around.
This is the most recent update from Tina:
"The last nine months has consisted of countless road trips, monumental stress and never-ending battles with various physicians, technicians, medical facilities, government entities and the insurance company to make sure that Justin received absolutely EVERYTHING he needs to maximize his recovery. I just received a phone call from Nichole (J's PT at TLC) telling me she sent me an e-mail with information from United Health Care regarding J's wheelchair request (the one he's using now is not adequate and not proportioned to him at this state in his recovery). I opened the DENIAL from UHC and they have stated that "the request for the member (they don't even use his name!!!) has been determined to not be medically necessary as progress notes state the member (again NOT HIS NAME) is able to ambulate 80 feet with a gait trainer (FYI- a gait trainer is one of the staff or myself moving J's right leg for him)!!! REALLY!! Words cannot express how I feel at this moment. I have cried tears of sorrow, tears of frustration and tears of joy. I have no tears left. I think I need to go ahead and schedule that nervous breakdown I've been putting off!"

Justin has come so far in his recovery in the past 9 months.  When this first happened he was in a hospital bed, unresponsive, with a feeding tube and tracheotomy.  He is now sitting, talking, has learned to do everything left handed, he is eating on his own, joking, laughing (and giving us all a hard time!), and he is working so incredibly hard in therapy on a daily basis.  He needs a new wheelchair and the insurance is denying him a new wheelchair to assist in his recovery.  This can be appealed but could take months to get through the process and he needs this NOW.

If you can spare anything to assist in getting him a wheelchair that he can move on his own, transfer to/from easier, and that will assist in his long and incredibly difficult recovery we would be forever grateful to be able to assist him in this way.  Justin is the heart of our family, the fun one, the jokester, and he would do anything for his family and his wife.   I know Tina and Justin (and the entire family) cannot wait for him to be completely healthy and maybe not need a wheelchair any longer but this would make his life so much more enjoyable and easier while he does have to use a wheelchair.  Any assistance is appreciated and we would be so thankful.

Sincerely--Megan (his favorite niece haha)
