Rayden Madison medical fund.
Rayden Lee Madison is the infant son of Nathan Madison and Claire Christie. Claire had a normal pregnancy and Rayden was born without any complications. While Nate and Claire noticed that Rayden had two different colored eyes and different sized pupils at birth, they were reassured that everything was fine. He passed his vision and hearing tests and was discharged from the hospital.
During the next few weeks Nate, Claire, and Grandma Michelle noticed that Rayden’s eyes kept changing. The colors of his eyes, and the size of the pupil in the right eye was getting larger. When Rayden became fussy and not able to keep anything down they decided to take him to see his pediatrician. Dr. Chavarria did an exam and immediately got on the phone to the Pediatric Ophthalmologist in Sioux Falls and Sanford Children’s Hospital. Despite her wanting Rayden to be seen right away, appointments were set up for the following morning in Sioux Falls.
Wednesday, April 14th, Nate and Claire received the news that little Rayden was most likely blind in both of his eyes. Both retinas were detached and they didn’t know why. He needed to have a MRI to see if there was a tumor behind the eyes causing this. Because Rayden would have to be put under anesthesia for the MRI and he had already eaten, it was scheduled for the following morning.
The MRI came back normal. There were no tumors! While his family was overjoyed with this wonderful news, it was bittersweet as they still did not have any answers about his vision. The neurologist at Sanford said in his 35 years of practice he has never seen anything like this. The plan was made to contact Mayo Hospital on Monday and see when they could get him seen. Dr. Chavarria called Nate and Claire Friday afternoon. She had been watching for the reports and wanted to know what was going on. She believes that this has all happened within the last week and said the sooner it gets taken care of, the better chances are of getting vision back. She said she’s been pushing for them to send the referral right away. It was after that conversation that Nate, Claire, and Michelle decided they were going to take Rayden to Mayo ER in the morning. They are on their way asI am typing this.
Nate and Claire will have a long road ahead of them. This GoFund me is set up to help with medical bills and anticipated stay in Rochester pending results of his exam. Nate has been back to work for awhile but Claire just recently went back to work as she was on maternity leave. With no income coming in it is going to be a real hardship for the family. This young family needs our love, support, and prayers for their little one. Any amount helps! If you cannot donate, your prayers are appreciated just as much! We have faith that our Lord will lay his hands on Rayden going forward through this journey,no matter what the outcome.
I will keep this page updated with updates as we get them. I will also be starting a caringbridge site for updates.
Thank you all for your love and support!
