Ray embodied his name as a light to those in his precious life.
Passing at 61, Dad was a man with a lot of love and warm thoughts for his children. A humble receiver of many awards while serving our nation as a United States Marine from 1981 to 1987, he is remembered as a force to be reckoned with. He enjoyed blues and greens of the outdoors, camping, hiking, bike rides, driving backroads, playing and watching baseball, going to museums, fresh pizza and a beer, trying new things, and spending time with his dear family.
Presence and integrity were some of Dad's highest-held values. As a hardworking man, he continued showing up to his overnight job in the moments he was able while also allowing himself time to rest and recover. On his off days, he was always stoked to make plans and hang out together.
Diagnosed with lung cancer in January 2023, the state of his illness seemed to be healing through his initial chemo and radiation treatments. However, it was throughout his following immunotherapy that he started to feel excruciating back pain, wheezing and exhaustion. This was present for a few months and increased throughout his hospitalization between July 25th and August 2nd. I love to believe in his soul and body's decision to transition as a liberation from his pain.
Moving through life with this human who did everything he could to be supportive, and with reverence for the man Dad was, this fundraiser is created by his youngest daughter to ask for a hand in his viewing and funeral expenses. Any and all is greatly appreciated.
To all who loved and cared for my dad, we lovingly welcome you to celebrate his life with us.
