Razor Sharp and Princeton Reunions 2022

Donation protected
In celebration of our 10th Reunion, the Princeton Class of 2012 invites you to join us in supporting Razor Sharp’s “Labor Day of Love” event, providing haircuts and school supplies to Trenton youth as they prepare to return to school!

Every Labor Day since 1998, a group of Trenton barbers led by Bill Hackett has provided free haircuts to kids in the community. Many families struggle to afford new school clothes and supplies each year, and Hackett committed to serving an important need. As a seasoned barber, he also recognized the importance of having a fresh haircut in developing confidence and self-esteem. This small act of service has since grown into a full-fledged block party, providing food, games, and school supplies for area kids headed back to school.

Tamika Somorin, longtime friend and supporter of the barber shop, describes Razor Sharp as "more than just a barber shop. Razor Sharp has always supported its community. They constantly give to local entrepreneurs, sports teams, free haircuts to our children even when it's not on Labor Day. These men are counselors, big brothers, and mentors. They are constantly pouring into the lives of our children.. They offer jobs to young men with the hopes of keeping them off the streets and also provide resources for parents.” Razor Sharp has three locations in Trenton and has been recognized by local New Jersey leadership as an integral part of the city’s community. Just this year Mayor Reed Gusciora proclaimed February 14th as “Razor Sharp Day” in the city of Trenton, thanking them for over 25 years of service to their local community.

Under Pace Center Assistant Director Dave Brown’s leadership, Princeton’s Community Action has for many years supported Razor Sharp’s “Labor Day of Love” by volunteering as support staff for the event. You may remember leading games, painting faces, or grilling hot dogs as a part of your Community Action service activities!

This year, the Class of 2012 is spearheading a digital fundraiser to sponsor the purchase of backpacks full of school supplies for attendees. Your gift of $30 would buy a new backpack filled with the essentials: notebooks, binders, pens and pencils, highlighters, notecards, and a flash drive.

As you reunite with old friends and share a beer over your fond memories of Princeton, we encourage you to make a gift to Razor Sharp to support the local community and celebrate the legacy of Dave Brown and other Pace Center leaders who mentored us and countless other Tigers as college students.
