Shelley's AC Replacement Fund

Meet my Aunt Shelley.  If she looks familiar then you probably love dinosaurs, the la brea tar pits, fossils or all of the above!  Maybe you even saw her on TV with Mike Rowe on "Dirty Jobs!"  And if you don't know Shelley, or my Aunt Bear as I call her, then let me tell you a little bit about her and what we're trying to do to help her.

All the way back in 1973, her career began as a volunteer at the La Brea Tar Pits after graduating from UCLA.  She was instantly hooked and she turned her thirst for discovery into a passion to share her knowledge with others.  For over 40 years she has been working hard at the La Brea Tar Pits where she has dedicated herself to bringing science, history and paleontology back to life for literally generations of museumgoers, young and old.   She has spent years meticulously cleaning newly discovered fossils in preparation for archiving and display, leading tours at the museum and most importantly passing down her knowledge and expertise to the new batch of both museum scientists and patrons alike.  Even at the very end of her career and despite joints that don't bend quite like they used to, she still finds the energy to jump right down into the tar pits for a hands on demonstration of an excavation in progress!  Aunt Bear not only inspires her fellow scientists that love working by her side but also undoubtedly has sown the seeds for future scientists to fill the ranks as young children leave the tar pits having been amazed and inspired!  After giving so much of herself to her beloved museum and community, we'd like to help give something back to her.

Shelley has spent decades in the hot tar pits under the scorching sun and tremendous heat without ever complaining or even flinching.  She was driven by her desire to do as much as she could for the museum and her exhibits.  Now, as she approaches the final days of her time at the museum, she prepares for retirement at her home in the Valley... the hot, 90+ degrees in the summer Valley!  Oh and by the way, she has no air conditioning!  So after spending over 40 years in the heat, we'd all love for her to be able to retire with a simple luxury that many of us take for granted.  Please help us have a central AC unit installed into her home so Aunt Bear can retire in a much cooler environment than she may be used to but so greatly deserves!  We can't thank you enough for helping make this dream for Shelley into a reality.
