Protect Our Water From The Telkwa Coal Mine
Donation protected
It is a critical time for us to learn, engage and raise our concerns about the threat that the Telkwa Coal Mine poses to our waters and communities.
The Telkwa Coal Mine is proposed on Witsuwit’en territory along the banks of the Telkwa River, a tributary of the Bulkley (Widzin Kwah) River and in the headwaters of the Skeena, one of the last remaining major salmon bearing systems in North America.
The mine risks polluting our waters with Acid Rock Drainage and heavy metals. It is located just 7 kilometers upstream from the closest town, and within a protected area for a local caribou herd which is listed as at imminent threat of extirpation under the Species at Risk Act.
Sound too bad to be true? Sadly, it isn't.
The Province of BC is currently reviewing Telkwa Coal’s environmental application, but history has taught us that we can't trust the claims that industry makes about protecting the environment. That's why What Matters In Our Valley , a local volunteer group, needs to raise $10,000 to raise public awarness and to ensure that we have accurate and independent research on the mine's true impacts. It is critical that local residents are fully informed about the risks of this proposal.
To help protect our rivers, fish, climate, caribou and communities from the risky Telkwa Coal mine, please help us reach our fundraising goal of $10,000 so we raise our collective voices and prove why this mine is too risky for the environment and the long-term well-being of our communities. Please donate today!
