The Give Back Project

Anyone who knows me is aware that I’m creative and especially love to do craft projects. A part of my healing therapy following the loss of our son to PPROM (pregnancy complication) on the 17th January has been packaging DIY craft packs for the mothers in hospital going through similar experiences.

I spent almost 3 weeks on strict bed rest with only toilet privileges on one of the wards of the Mater Mothers Hospital Brisbane. During that time it was a real mental struggle to ease the mind and pass the time while we navigated our pregnancy complications. I come to find that the maternity ward and NICU were filled with mums like myself and a lot of them were from out of town, so far from their families and support.

Leaving the hospital I decided that we had the capacity to give back to the hospital. While we were in there a close group of friends raised some funds to send us away to heal. We took $500 of that money and have started to put together a massive package of a various DIY craft kits for the hospital. We have a small amount of each but with your help we can give back more!

Given that it’s my birthday on the 23rd Feb I’m asking friends and family who have been asking how they can help, to instead of going out with me or buying me anything for my birthday just to donate $5 towards this project. Not only does it contribute to my healing process and keep me busy, each $5 will help another mum/dad like us going through a similar experience.

The hospital and I have worked together to construct a list of packs that best suit the mums and are more out of reach than other crafty items. If we can raise a surplus of funds to extend the reach we hope to also supply some packs to the children’s wards for families on long term stays.
