Erica’s Fight

My name is Harley!

To know Erica is to love her soul inside and out. She’s a devoted mother, daughter, spouse, aunt, friend, etc. Erica was diagnosed with Liver Cancer on October 16th. Below I will share her story from her. Coworkers and myself have decided to come up with a few fundraisers and ways to help Erica out with her battle. We’re appreciative for any donations!

Erica’s Story:

Since the age of around 15/16 I have had elevated liver enzymes on routine blood work. They have been elevated since and on recent labs my primary doctor decided it was time to see the Specialist. I went to Duke and seen the Specialist. She orders a bunch of labs and all came back normal. On September 22 I endured horrible abdominal pain to where I couldn't catch a deep breath well. Later it somewhat went away. It lasted until the following Tuesday and I made an appt with my primary dr. On Sept 29 I met with my pcp and we decided to do a CT scan. I had my scan done on Oct 5 and Oct 6th my life turned upside down. I was called into my Dr's office for results and need to go asap. I get off work and go. There were the words no one wants to read "highly possible for malignancy." My heart sunk to my stomach. Never would I have thought this would happen to me. No family history, decent health, young, mom of 2. Next step was to schedule an MRI to be sure. October 16th went for my MRI that morning by that afternoon I had my results. Again my heart sank and had a coworker read my results. There it was 11cm mass on my liver. Possibility for 2 different types of cancer both which are rare. Chloangiocarcinoma or HCC. Today I went to visit with a general surgeon and oncologist. I am scheduled for surgery next friday to remove the mass and then send it off for a biopsy. I'm pretty confident in my team at Duke to help me through this. I'm not much on putting my life out in public for all to see but felt like I needed to let my FB friend and family know what's been going on. All the prayers are appreciated. I'm just taking this one day at a time.
