Hello everyone,

 

We are Nicky Melillo and Andrew Sposta, and we are setting this fund up for William Sposta. William is 4 years old and is the son of Chief Angelo Sposta Jr of the Port Chester Fire Department, and Katelyn Sposta. In 2019 William came home with a bump on his head, he went through a series of X-rays, CT scans and MRIs. It was determined William had a tumor in his head that had eaten through his skull and the outer layer of his brain. The doctors were all in agreement that he seemed to have a rare form of cancer called Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis.

 

In September 2019 he underwent a craniotomy to remove the remainder of the mass and reconstruct the missing part of his skull. A couple of weeks after surgery the pathology came back with inconclusive results, because LCH can have spontaneous recovery properties, it was assumed that this is what happened. In the quest for answers for William he was denied second opinions because the lack of an official diagnosis.

 

In the meantime William was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Over the last two years since his surgery he had consistent MRIs and X-rays to monitor the original spot and make sure there was no new growth. All of these tests have come back clear, although they cause regression in the progress William would make with his Autism, they were necessary.

 

This past Wednesday William underwent what was possibly one of his last MRIs. We were anticipating the regular process however that’s not what we got when the surgeon called. The radiologist had found on the MRI that William has another tumor, this one located on his C1 vertebrae in his neck. This is obviously a very concerning location. It no longer feels like we can continue on without answers as to why this is happening.

 

Second opinions are not covered by insurance because William was never officially diagnosed and the costs of what is happening is becoming beyond what any one family should have to handle on their own. Angelo, Katelyn, Melanie and William are our family, and we want them to not have to live with the additional massive financial burden this will bring upon them. We will have an army behind William and his family and we hope to be able to take away this worry, anything you can do to help, is beyond appreciated. #Williamstrong
