Reagan's Service Dog Journey
On February 3, 2021, spleen cancer took our daughter's service dog of 10.5 years away from us. We were blessed with 'Floppy ' when Reagan was 7 years old and our hearts will forever be grateful for the love and support she provided to Reagan and our family as a whole.
For anyone not familiar with Reagan’s disabilities: She has distal chromosome 18 q- and partial trisomy p. This manifests itself in several ways in that she is cognitively impaired, non-verbal, and often has high levels of anxiety and emotion. She also has been known to wander out of the house (sneakily). Floppy was trained in tracking and search & rescue, a skill that is needed in these instances; and behavior disruption to calm our girl and assist her with everyday struggles.
In late June, we were given the opportunity to puppy raise for Dulebohn Service Dogs with the goal of having sweet 'Stella' join our family as Reagan's new best pal. As you can see, things are going well and they are bonding quickly. Stella will need advanced training to provide support to Reagan, much like Floppy underwent. Jeremy Dulebohn was Floppy's trainer, so we are excited to be pairing up with him again to give Stella the tools she needs to be the best that she can be for Reagan for many years to come.
The funds raised will help to train Stella in the following disciplines: Tracking/Search & Rescue, tethering, behavior disruption and overall obedience. In addition, we will need to train with Stella away from our home for a week, so funds will be used to assist us in that endeavor as well.
Thank you, in advance, for your consideration!
Sincerely,
The Collura Family
