Real News Revival New Year's drive

It’s time for a Real News Revival!
Investigative journalism is more important now than at any point in the last century. But deep, investigative work is expensive, and newspapers and news magazines are struggling. In the last two months alone The Associated Press, Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg, Gannett, and Univision have all announced new layoffs. It can’t go on like this. It's time for a Real News Revival!
Who we are
We're a group of concerned citizens promoting civic and philanthropic commitment to investigative journalism. (Note that we do not work for or on behalf of any news media outlet) Read more about the Real News Revival on our website. Basically, we're a few volunteers who want more people reading real news and more journalists writing it. And we need your help.
How you can help
This holiday season, help us fund newspaper and news magazine subscriptions to schools, health clinics, veterans hospitals, etc. around the country. $10,000 will support about 200 annual subscriptions to award-winning newspapers and news magazines (see the current list of outlets we support).
Keep in mind that annual subcscriptions cost around $40 for news magazines and $250 for newspapers. If we surpass our funding goal, we'll just send more news!
Note that 100% of contributions go to subscription costs.
Whether you contribute today or not, you can nominate recipients anytime.
Timeline
We want to meet our goal by January 1, 2017. The holiday season is a perfect time to donate newspapers and news magazines. Most outlets offer discounted prices, the subscriptions we fund will run through the calendar year, and Real News is a perfect holiday gift.
Why is Real News so important?
Real News comes from trained professionals doing careful research. They support their claims with evidence that editors can verify. Journalists and publishers also sign their names to their work. If it doesn’t meet the standards of the profession, journalists are held accountable.
Of course this work is a process... an expensive process. Unfortunately, at a time when deep, investigative journalism is so critical, readership is in decline. Whether they come from us, from you, or both, news subscriptions support the work of investigative journalists.
So help support investigative journalism by giving the gift of truth this holiday season, and join the Real News Revival!
