Reaves family during a life altering moment

Hi, my is TomeiaMonae Reaves. On the evening of June 28, 2023, I had no idea that my life was about to change forever. My husband, Dannie Reaves, was seriously injured and taken to the trauma unit in Gainesville, FL. I didn’t find out until hours later when someone reached out to me because they thought I’d known about it already. I was still at our home in California. I was able to catch a flight to get to him the very next morning,urging the doctors to do whatever they could do to save him along the way. On June 30, 2023 his fight was over after coding six times . My husband, the love of my life and sole provider for our family, was gone.

Dannie always made sure our bills were paid on time and that we never went without. He was planning on flying back home to California the very next morning but that night he was injured. It was hard enough to lose him so unexpectedly and then I had to deal with others around him that grabbed a hold of his assets before I could claim them. I had to have an officer help me get the keys to our vehicle back once I made it to the hospital. I came to Florida with only a small bag I packed because I didn’t know what to expect once I got to my husband’s bedside. Before I could get to the vehicle and his things, his wallet, cash,and other assets were stolen and kept from me. There was no regard for me or my children and what we would have to face in the coming days, months, and years. He didn’t have a will nor any life insurance. Anyone that has lost a spouse or a close relative may know just how hard it is to have all of the needed affairs taken care of after their death. I’ve tried to let his family and “friends” know that Dannie would not want them to keep his things from his wife and kids. However, I’ve only gotten rude comments and no cooperation. His bank account has been emptied. I don’t have his phone nor drivers license to handle things that are crucial to making sure he’s laid to rest, the kids and I having a place to stay, and the bills being paid. I haven’t even seen the bill from the hospital yet but I can only imagine how high that will be. It is extremely hard when I’m being hit by roadblocks from everywhere. I haven’t even been able to fully wrap my head around the fact that he’s gone.

We have 3 minor children at home. One is about to graduate and would like to attend college. She’s an honor student and has worked hard to keep her grades up since she started school. She will be graduating next may without her father there to see her walk across the stage. Our other daughter is an honor student as well. She is so talented and is right behind her sister with dreams of going to college and being a huge success in life. Our son is the youngest and was his father’s right-hand man. Even though is very independent-minded, he has special needs which required me to become a stay-at-home mom. Dannie was an awesome provider and made sure we had everything we needed. Now that he is gone, I’m struggling to pick up the pieces and keep our children covered. We are devastated at the loss of him. I never thought that we’d be without him and now we are. He’s been the sole provider for the last 7 years.

I’m starting this Gofundme because I have no other choice, with so many of his assets being stolen or held from us, and him having no insurance I haven’t been able to pay anything. I have to relocate my family, pay utility bills, credit card debt and everyday expenses for myself and 3 teenagers all while trying to lay my husband to rest. He would be hurt to see the situation we’re in because I know that he never would have wanted to put us in this position but we never know what life will throw at us.
