Rebecca (Becky, Becca) Scott's medical expenses

Donation protected
Hi, My name is Mary Beth Scott.
I'm raising funds for a sister, a caretaker, a nurse, a daughter (Dorothea Scott's), a fur baby mother, a full of life, young vibrant 54 year old. Becca has experienced a huge life-changing setback in her life. On Sept. 21 she was rushed by ambulance from home, to Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, IA to Iowa Methodist in Des Moines, IA for emergency surgery. She couldn't walk, pain in her back, shoulder and right arm. Spinal infection. For 9 days she was on a ventilator, unconscious. When she came out of her coma-like state, we were told she suffered a stroke in her lower spine (lumbar) causing blood stoppage, leaving her in paralysis. She was transferred to a regular room on October 1st at Iowa Methodist out of the critical care unit. We saw the light at the end of the tunnel. However, it hasn't been in reach. Yet. We still have hope.
Fast forward to today, October 25. We have been struggling with the insurance company for coverage for her acute rehabilitation. 2 weeks minimum at this point we have been going through the denials, paperwork, etc. Becca is paralyzed from her pelvic down and semi-paralysis in her right arm. She will be in a wheelchair. She is trying to look forward to a future however her positive attitude keeps having setbacks due to seeing the same walls for 3 1/2 weeks and the light at the end of the tunnel seems to be getting further away. She is on intensive antibiotics (intravenously) for the initial infection and a few more that have come about of late as well pain medicine. She feels very Blessed to be alive. She realizes so much more is to come in struggles, strife, emotions and life, however has hopes to just to try to be as normal as possible in a wheelchair and she is strong, a fighter continuing the battle.
There are many costs that are coming up that cannot be covered; her family members can scrape up what little they can to contribute but it doesn't even scratch the surface. The gas, food, incremental costs to be with her as much as possible add up however the major costs coming are:
• the percentage that the insurance is not going to cover for her time in the hospital (and thereafter)
• imminent rehab or skilled nursing
• motorized wheelchair to 'survive' in
• specialized bed with rails
• customized restroom facility
• ramp into her home for wheelchair ( several volunteers are helping to build) but costs for the wood
• home care attendant
• handicapped vehicle
• and more we haven't thought about or that we know about
We have cleared a room at her home on the ground level that we are currently painting, and fixing up with the bare minimums that we can and filling out paperwork for disability assistance (minimum 2 years before it would even start).
These are just a few of the immediate monetary concerns that are needed. She wants to be home now however until we can accommodate these needs at minimum for her, she will continue to be at Iowa Methodist or they will transfer her to another medical facility for continued medical necessities.
She is a young 54 that now has to change everything about her life. I believe at this time that the cliches' Money can buy happiness' and 'A dollar goes a long way' are so true. The donations can help to put her in a position where her life can be more comfortable which will or should bring happiness, as well even a dollar donation from many, adds up to bring about those items (and less bills, or worry) to also bring about some comfort or happiness. If you cannot donate, please pray for Becca. Prayers are great in numbers.
Thank you in advance for anything any one of you can do for this beautiful person who chooses to live, no matter what her future holds.
