Rebecca Henry - in memory x
Rebecca - Bec - was the most beautiful, smart, independent, loving, kind and independent person.
She was the travel partner, the cook, the listener, the best friend, the incredible sister and daughter, and the work colleague who nurtured and bought the after work drinks.
Bec died on 2 February 2021 just four months after being diagnosed with a rare and aggressive cancer. I can't explain how much she will be missed and what a massive hole she leaves in so many lives.
This fundraiser is to raise money in her memory. It will go towards:
- A memorial bench in the new, blossoming orchard of Victoria Park in Hackney. She loved this park and lived close to it. It will be a place we can sit and be with Bec. This costs £1,200 and should be in place by the summer.
- A donation to a charity local to Hackney supporting children and young people in education, careers and creativity. She was so passionate about work and supporting others in work, and even visited a school to teach kids about maths (because Bec loved maths - sorry Bec!).
- A donation to the Japanese drumming workshop Bec attended - the Tamashii School of Taiko . Yes, I have actual video of Bec doing this and it's amazing! (I don't know if the workshop is currently going because of Covid, but I hope we can help them start drumming again).
- A donation to the amazing organisations that supported Bec during her illness: UCLH, Macmillan and St Joseph's Hospice. (The only reason this isn't top of the list is that I wanted this fundraiser to be about things she loved, not her cancer, and so many of Bec's friends are supporting here already.)
This fundraiser opens on what would have been Bec's 41st birthday and aims to close on the day of Bec's memorial picnic on 7th August 2021.
I hope this will go some way to being Bec's legacy - a way to remember her and a way of funding things she loved.
So...please give generously!
Gem x
(I will ask close family and friends to help divvy up the funds and decide what goes where, and be completely transparent on this. Thanks to Liam for organising the bench, suggesting the drumming workshop and getting Bec into his school to meet those kids)
