Rebecca's 26.2 for Hopkinton Education Foundation
LET'S BRING MORE INNOVATION IN EDUCATION TO HOPKINTON
I'm excited to share that I'm running my first-ever Boston Marathon this October -- and every step will be to raise funds for the Hopkinton Education Foundation (HEF).
Why I'm running for HEF
HEF is celebrating over 25 years as a non-profit institution, dedicated to advancing innovation in the Hopkinton Public Schools. During that time, HEF has awarded over $1,400,000 to fund 350 grants.
Grants active for the 2020-2021 school year included:
- “Active Math” at Marathon
- "Youngest Hearts Social Justice Children’s Literature" at Marathon
- "Windows, Mirrors, Sliding Doors" at Elwood (2nd grade)
- "Indigenous People and People of Color" at HHS (9th and 10th grade)
- "At Home Chemistry" at HHS
- “Reading Sets you Free” at HHS
In addition to the following grants were funded but deferred to 2021-2022:
- “Recess Reboot” at Hopkins (Billelo/Babson)”
- “Have I Got a Deal for You!” at HMS (Allen)
- “Master Grid Technique” (L Kirshenbaum/M Kirshenbaum/Bailey-Jones
- "Yoga for All” – District wide (Santos/Renaus)
I’ve long admired the opportunities that HEF has granted to educators and students. I love that funds awarded further inspire students’ creativity and spark innovation, while also ensuring access to support for mental health and balance.
This is where I hope to have an impact by raising funds for HEF, particularly in a year following the challenges and new opportunities discovered through hybrid and remote learning. There will be a number of new ideas that help ensure our students have balance and emotional support, can discover new ways of learning and tap into their creative and resilient spirit.

More about my why
I’m a nine-year Hopkinton resident who is proud of the education we provide our community. I have two daughters (7 and 11) in the school system and my husband is a 6th grade math teacher at Hopkinton Middle School. Our family roots are here with Hopkinton and its education.
The entire experience of running the Boston Marathon excites me. The opportunity to participate in a historic event in Massachusetts – our country and world – with a big 125-year anniversary being marked this year. Having recently completed the 24-hour Yeti Challenge (30 miles in 24 hours) -- I'm inspired to get out there and run to Boston. And this year's delayed timing couldn't be more perfect -- giving me the chance to complete my first marathon literally days before I turn 41.
The Boston Marathon brings the most elite runners to Hopkinton. To be a small part of that would simply be amazing -- and to have an opportunity to contribute to our community in the process. And of course – showing my two girls that if you set a goal, plan and execute with purpose and passion – anything is possible.
YOUR DONATION, SUPPORT AND ENCOURAGEMENT IS GREATLY APPRECIATED
