Rebecca...16 and going to Harvard
Donation protected
Lead trooper of the quaddrome accepted to Harvard University. Yes, Rebecca is on her way to college. She has been selected to attend Harvard's Secondary School Program (SSP) for the summer.
6:30 am going to school
Can't believe she is preparing for college and she's just 16. Then again, these are her stats...
1. Sophomore at South Mecklenburg HS
2. A-Honor Roll 2015-2016 school year
3. 4.0 unweighted GPA
4. ranked 85 out of 813 in her class
5. nearly the top 10%.
But, that's not all...
Her plate is full with a Course Load of Honors Classes in English, Math, Chemistry, Civics & Economics along with Spanish & Latin.
Despite being so academically gifted, she finds time to participate in Band, Cross Country, and Track & Field. Rebecca loves to dance and enjoys sinking into a good book when she has time.
The beginnings of a dream...
Rebecca wants to study Business and open up stores around the world with her fashion designs. She dreams of starting programs to help other young people in need through dance and music.

As a single parent, my heart is filled with such excitement. God has really blessed me with great children. And, this young lady right here, has been such a great example -not just to her younger siblings, but also those around her.

When you think about what got us here...
Rebecca is dedicated to being successful and pursuing her dreams. She is focused. She is determined. She is special. I have to tell you that HOW SPECIAL she is truly became REAL to me during her eighth grade year. That year Rebecca received the highest grade average in ALL her classes.
I drove home that day with several medals around my neck. With tears in my eyes, I remembered how Rebecca would sit up at night... under the flashlight of my cell phone...across the room on the top of her bunker.
You see, at that time, we lived in the Salvation Army's Center of Hope, a Family Shelter here in North Carolina. To make a long story short, my family relocated from Boston, MA trying to leave behind the remnants of an abusive unstable family arrangement.
But with God...
We came to North Carolina to start a new life. And, that we did. Rebecca along with her siblings continue to be actively engaged in their schools, our Park Church, and our community. As for me, I'm now working as a Secretary in the Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools.

Rebecca has done her part. She works hard to keep her grades up. She lets her light shine wherever she is. Rebecca doesn't wear her problems on her forehead. Instead, she strives to make a living making a difference, doing what she loves...helping and serving people.
Help me help her to attend the Secondary School Program at Harvard this summer. This is the preparation-the foundation- she needs to get ready for college. How could we pass up this golden opportunity to attend such a prestigious university?!?!?
Here is what we are facing ahead...
