Help get Rebekka home

UPDATE BELOW…… 

Hi, my name is Stephanie and I am appealing for help in our time of need.

On Friday 2nd of September, in Antalya Turkey, my sister in-law Rebekka and 10 year old nephew, Sonny, went on a TUI insured excursion, which was booked through a TUI rep on a TUI holiday.

They thought it would be a memorable, unforgettable experience….. It certainly was but not in the way they expected!!!

Rebekka is now currently stranded in a Turkish hospital after suffering life changing, horrific injuries after the buggy went off a cliff during the unsafe excursion. The steering was faulty in the buggy and her seatbelt was faulty, as it came off in the incident.

Her injuries include:

7 fractured vertebrae

Fractured hip/pelvis

Internal bleeding

Permanent nerve damage in lower back

Rebekka has undergone 2 critical bouts of surgery, including metal plates being put in around her lumbar bones and also a chest drain for her internal bleeds.

She was in an induced coma and received 6 blood transfusions, she was told she could be paralysed, but has thankfully taken a few steps this week.

Sonny was also hospitalised, but as his seatbelt stayed intact, his injuries aren’t as severe as his mums. Sonny required CT scans, X-rays and pain medication, he also need to use a wheelchair for a while as he could not walk without severe pain in his legs.

Sonny came home to myself and his uncle 3 days after the incident- his other uncle had to fly out to Turkey to collect him as he was all alone in the Turkish hospital due to Rebekka being in intensive care.

Sonny and Leo (Bekkas 5 year old son) have not seen their mum for weeks now and they miss her so much.

The hospital is now demanding money that we just cannot afford, medical bill is now up to £40,000 for both Rebekka and Sonny’s treatment. She cannot be released until the fees are paid.

She also needs a medical flight to return to the uk as her injuries are so severe that she is bed bound, this is around £19,000.

TUI have refused to help with all the medical costs and repatriation, even though the excursion was insured with them, it clearly states that on the excursion details.

The first buggy she was put in, had an engine that failed, on the second buggy the steering was heavy and difficult to turn. Rebekkas seatbelt came off during the incident and she was thrown out of the vehicle causing the awful, life changing injuries that I stated earlier.

 

Her mental state is rapidly deteriorating each day and we are out of our minds with worry. Sonny’s mental state is not good either, he is still absent from school and we have referred him to a child’s mental health service.

Rebekka needs further intrusive surgery back in the UK, the medical team have stated she needs to be in a category 1 hospital urgently.

As a family we are asking for your help to get Rebekka home to us and her two young children. We know times are very difficult for everyone right now and we would be hugely grateful for any donations made.

We have tried everything else (British embassy, MP, the foreign office, Turkish police, CEO of TUI, director of TUI…. Etc) we have exhausted all avenues and this is our last and only option.

We would be extremely grateful for any help that could get Rebekka back home to her children.
