Help Rebel Coffee Repair and Rebuild

Donation protected
Rebel Coffee is a locally owned, independent coffee shop on West 39th Street, and we're an active part of our local community. Unfortunately, we got broken into on the night of Monday September 23. Luckily it seems like nothing was taken (it seems our security system scared them off) but our door is ruined. It will cost about $3,000 to fix it. Insurance may be able to pay for part of it, but we don't know yet. Any additional money leftover we will put towards community initiatives (like Pay-It-Forward and hosting artist sales around 3rd Fridays) and events (like Trivia or Game Night) that we have wanted to try.

Around 6am on Tuesday, September 24, one of our baristas arrived to open the shop and found the glass on the front door broken into and the alarm lights flashing. Around 6:45am, some of our regulars arrived and were shocked to see the break-in. They helped clean up the broken glass, even with their own brooms! One of regulars also suggested we make this GoFundMe.

We officially opened in November 2023, and we have been working hard! It's been a year with a lot of growth, and we won't let this set us back. We were already planning a 1-year birthday party for November 2024, and hopefully, we'll be able to show off our brand new door by then!

Thank you to everyone for the support and love. We feel so supported by our community.

ABOUT REBEL COFFEE
Rebel Coffee is a locally owned coffee shop at 1607 W 39th St in Kansas City, MO 64111.

“I grew up drinking coffee, it’s a part of my family’s culture from Oaxaca. Even as a kid, I drank it all the time. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and right before bed, you would have it with bread. Coffee just was always a part of my life.

When we thought about opening a coffee shop, we thought about the variety of tastes of coffees. What kinds of drinks could we make with different coffee taste profiles? We enjoy experimenting with different kinds of beverages, and hosting tasting events to introduce people to the complexities of flavors.

Coffee is a communal drink that brings people together, both family and friends. It makes you feel warm. And we wanted to make a space that captured that feeling. When you come here, we don’t want to feel like we’re having a transaction—we want to feel like we’re sharing a cup of coffee together.

Rebel Coffee invites neighbors, friends, and family together. We aim to uplift each other, and we are a proud member of the 39th Street Community Improvement District. We try to support where we can, such as sharing advice for other new businesses or gift a warm cup of coffee to those who can’t afford one.

We had our grand opening on November 17, 2023, and we are excited about the future. We hope to see you soon!”
