Rebuild Asheville's Community Woodshop: Foundation Woodworks
Donation protected
Hurricane Helene brought devastating floods to Asheville, and among the hardest hit was a beloved community of small business owners, artists, and creatives in the Historic River Arts District: Foundation Woodworks.
Foundation Woodworks was more than a shared space; it was a second home to 19 woodworkers, artisans, and creatives, making it the largest community woodshop in the Asheville area. The space also showcased the work of 60 artists in the attached gallery. The floodwaters surged through the building, destroying the livelihood of these artists and business owners, wiping out years of hard work, creativity, and dreams.
Now, they need our help to rebuild. Your donation will go directly to support these artists as they try to recover, rebuild their businesses, and bring back the unique craftsmanship and creativity that Asheville embodies.
How donations will be used:
100% of donated funds will be used to assist with the following (non-exhaustive) list of actions:
- Secure a safe, temporary satellite space for displaced woodworkers to attempt to resume operations.
- Replace critical tooling that Jacqueline and Mark provided for shared use by the resident woodworkers.
- Contribute to commercial rent relief for the artist occupants as they attempt to rebuild their work.
- Offset physical inventory loss experience by gallery artists as a result of catastrophic hurricane damage.
Every dollar helps. Let’s come together to support this vibrant community in their time of need.
- 19 small business owners / woodworkers in the studio
- 60+ artists represented in the gallery

After the Flood

ABOUT THIS GOFUNDME:
Unfortunately, fraud and scams are a reality with this disaster and transparency is the best way to give donors peace of mind that their donations are going to the right place. So, let me be very clear about who I am and how funds will be used:
Who I am:
My name is Adam Richards, I live in Nashville Tennessee, and I am close friends with Mark and Jacqueline, the couple who own Foundation Woodworks. I went to college with Mark and have remained close friends with him since graduation.
Why I created this Gofundme:
There are multiple reasons
- I love Asheville and the community that Mark and Jacqueline have built, and want to support them in this time.
- I grew up in Florida and lived through Katrina, hurricane Michael, Opal, and the list goes on. I have helped friends and family try and reclaim their lives after everything has been ripped away by a natural disaster. In 2018, I wish I could have done more to help family after hurricane Michael. Now, I choose to not have that same regret.
- I am also creating this because I personally feel the need to give and know others do too but do not have a way to directly give to this community.
