Rebuild Carriacou

Hi, My Name is Vernini, and I am raising money to help rebuild the little Caribbean Island of Carriacou. For those of you know personally know me, I was out there the whole December helping my friend, who moved out there to build a dream of running a beach side cafe/restaurant.

It has taken a year to build up the business, settle into and be accepted by the community and start a new life. Just as the cafe was standing on its own two feet financially the hurricane hit and now his business and home are completely devastated and I would like to help, not just him, but all the others who became friends and then supported me when I came back to have a foot operation and was bedridden. They called every day to check on me and to help keep my spirits high when I was feeling so low.

On 1st July, Hurricane Beryl devastated Carriacou, impacting 98% of the island. Homes, shops, and community centers were destroyed, leaving residents in dire need. The island itself is only 13 sq mile, which is the equivalent distance from Chiswick to Canary Wharf, with a population of 9000 people.

Immediate relief efforts are currently focused on providing food, water, and essential supplies.

However, the need for long-term rebuilding is critical. Rebuilding homes, shops, and community centers is crucial for the island's recovery. It will restore livelihoods, provide shelter, and strengthen community resilience.

This hurricane was early in the season, they are going to suffer more in the coming rainy season. They need roofs to protect what little they have left.

I envision a resilient Carriacou with rebuilt infrastructure, thriving businesses, and strong community ties. I want to make sure that the money raised actually go to those who really need to rebuild their homes and business and restore some order to the island and community.
