Rebuild Carriacou & Petite Martinique after Hurricane Beryl

Donation protected
Dear Friends and Supporters,

We urgently need your help. On July 1, 2024, Hurricane Beryl, a powerful and relentless Category 4 storm, devastated the beautiful islands of Carriacou and Petite Martinique. These close-knit communities, known for their vibrant culture, pristine beaches, and warm hospitality, now face unimaginable hardship. Homes, schools, and vital infrastructure have been destroyed, and the resilient spirit of our people is being tested like never before.

Our Story

Carriacou and Petite Martinique are not just islands; they are homes to families, artisans, and small business owners who have built their lives here for generations. The community thrives on tourism, fishing, and agriculture. Now, with the widespread destruction caused by Hurricane Beryl, many have lost everything they worked so hard to achieve. The winds and floods have left behind a trail of debris, destroyed buildings, and a desperate need for essential supplies.

My Personal Connection

As a proud Grenadian citizen, I have a deep and personal connection to Carriacou and Petite Martinique. Since I was a little boy, I have been visiting Carriacou nearly every year with my family, creating some of our fondest memories with relatives and friends there. My father lived and worked in Petite Martinique for a year, where he became an 'adopted son' of the island. The people of these islands are not just fellow Grenadians to me; they are family. Their pain is my pain, and their recovery is my mission.

The Current Situation

- Homes and Infrastructure: Hundreds of homes have been damaged or completely destroyed, leaving many families homeless. Essential infrastructure, including schools, hospitals, and community centers, has been severely affected.
- Electricity and Water: The storm has knocked out power and clean water supplies, creating dire living conditions and complicating rescue and relief efforts.
- Livelihoods: With the destruction of fishing boats, farms, and local businesses, many families are left without a source of income, unsure of how they will rebuild their lives.

Our Appeal

We are reaching out to you, our global community, to ask for your support in this time of urgent need. Your generous donations will go directly to relief and rebuilding efforts on the ground. Our priorities include:

1. Emergency Supplies: Providing food, clean water, medical supplies, and temporary shelter to those who have been displaced.
2. Rebuilding Homes: Assisting families in reconstructing safe and secure homes to restore a sense of normalcy.
3. Restoring Infrastructure: Rebuilding schools, healthcare facilities, and community centers that are vital for daily life and long-term recovery.

Transfer Plan and Use of Funds

I will be personally collecting the funds raised and ensuring they reach the intended recipients. I have been in touch with government officials and the disaster management team, and once their assessments are complete, we will identify the best use cases for the funds to achieve priorities above and to rebuild something permanent and impactful in Carriacou. I will liaise with them and the Minister of Carriacou to ensure that the donations fund a project that is tangible, essential, and meaningful. This way, all donors can see what their contributions have gone towards, and when they visit, they can feel a sense of pride in knowing they helped make it happen.

As a developer who has built buildings in Grenada, I am well-positioned to understand the costs and processes involved in construction, ensuring that every dollar donated is used effectively and efficiently.
