Funky Junk Farms: Help Johnny and Yipsy
Donation protected
Sadly Johnny and Yipsy’s home has been completely destroyed in the Eaton fires. Their 100 year old log cabin home and property were once called the Altadena Water Gardens, which sold tropical fish and aquatic plants in the 1940s and 50s. Johnny and Yipsy moved to Altadena over 20 years ago and built a magical wonderland that was a living museum filled with vintage cars, trailers, memorabilia, signs, sculptures, and so much more. Their home was loved by everyone who visited and their backyard parties were legendary (ask anyone who had a drink at their bar shaped like a pumpkin). They evacuated with very little and left behind 40 years worth of collections.
Johnny’s is a 36 year veteran of the film industry with 29 years as a Teamster Local 399 union member. He has a larger than life persona and is known for his signature overalls. His motto is “make it happen”. His ties to Altadena go back 3+ generations and Altadena is a community that both he and Yipsy love and cherish. Johnny has collected hundreds of vehicles and trailers over his lifetime and is a walking encyclopedia of cars and trailers. He and Yipsy love attending their vintage trailer rallys and Funky Junk Farms is a beloved presence at these events.
When they were looking to buy a home in Altadena Yipsy fell in love with the beautiful old log cabin that was amidst chaotic piles of aquariums and debris. She immediately called Johnny and said “I found our new home.” She created jewelry there and amassed a large collection of vintage clothing. She planted a large cactus garden during covid that was admired by many. Together, her and Johnny created their dream home and planned to live their forever.
While they navigate the path forward, they are grateful and TRULY blessed to have amazing friends and family who have extended offers to help.
Thank you
