Rebuild Heinke Home

Donation protected
November 8th, a day that a community was dramatically changed.  The Camp Fire, the deadliest fire in California’s history, ripped through the peaceful community of Paradise and brought utter destruction to a town rich in history.  95% of the town is destroyed and has left a multi-generational community reeling from unimaginable loss and has left them wondering, “Where do we go from here?”

The Heinke family is one of these families.  Thursday morning was a day like any other for the Heinke family.  Their 8 year old son John prepared for school while their 21 month old foster daughter Melli jabbered away at the breakfast table.  They were planning to leave to visit their grandmother in Southern California for an early-Thanksgiving celebration the next day.   Terran left to take John to school, when Heinke received a call that school was cancelled because of the smoky air from a wildfire in the area.  She called her husband and they decided to leave for Grandma’s house a day early.  Terran and John picked up snacks from a local grocery store while Heinke dressed Melli, fed the chickens, and packed for a long weekend’s trip.  As time ticked on and Terran and John still hadn’t returned home, Heinke began to worry.  When they finally returned home, Terran brought the motorhome over to the farmhouse and Heinke started to load up their vacation supplies while Terran watered down the apple trees, chickens and goats.  As the only family members left on the farm, he felt it was his duty to do everything to save it.  When Heinke went into the house for the next item, flames were beginning to leap over the fence, separating their patio from their neighbors’ driveway.  She and the children drove away under a shower of embers while her husband promised to be right behind her in the motorhome.  He escaped with second degree burns to his face and ear.

The Heinke’s resided on a farm that had been in their family for six generations.  John’s bedroom was the same one his grandfather had as a child.  John’s great-grandfather built the home with his own hands.  All that remains are the cinderblock walls.  Family heirlooms, fruit trees and livestock all perished.  When Terran, an Airforce Veteran and officer with the California Highway Patrol, was able to return home he was tasked with the tragic duty of burying 21 of their livestock.

It’s overwhelming for this sweet family who has a heart to give.  Terran serves to protect our communities and never hesitates to help a person in need and Heinke volunteers working with kids at their local Awana Clubs.  In addition, they are in the process of finalizing the adoption of their foster daughter Melli.  These are just a few examples of this family’s heart to help others.

We know there are so many in need, but we are asking if you feel led to bless this sweet family that you would not only hold them up in prayer but consider making a monetary donation.  We would love to help come alongside the Heinke family and help them to rebuild their family home.  Through all this, they are standing strong in their faith, clinging to the knowledge that even in the darkest of times, God is with them and He has no plans of leaving or forsaking them.  May we all keep our eyes on Christ and look for ways to share His love with those in need.
