Rebuild Montessori Communities affected by Hurricane Helene
Donation protected
The communities of two of our sister Montessori schools have been devastated by Hurricane Helene.
The Administrative Director of the Montessori Learning Community of Asheville, North Carolina reported, “It’s pure devastation in NC. I am in pretty serious shock. Many roads wiped away, and many lives have been lost. The water, power, and gas are not expected to return fully to the area for weeks. There are trees and power lines down on every road. All the major interstate corridors have been shut down due to landslides, etc.”
The Head of School at Westabou Montessori School in Augusta, Georgia reported: “Our entire city is destroyed. So many of our school families are homeless, with no food, water, cars, or gas. I feel so fortunate. I was at least able to get all the trees off my car and house.”
These two schools suffered damage but are still standing and are offering refuge to their families. They stand as their community cornerstones, helping to get through this difficult time and then on to the long process of rebuilding.
In Montessori tradition, we will do what we can to be of help. We are collecting financial contributions in any amount to help with food and basic living supplies to help the schools and their families get through this time and move on to rebuilding. Each school estimates they have $3000 in damages, anything we receive over our $6000 goal will go towards rebuilding their surrounding communities.
