In the early morning hours of June 7th 2023, a young Hispanic Family were the victims of an awful hate crime. A local extremist set fire to their new construction home, which resulted in a total loss. The suspect was apprehended and remains in custody, but the family did not have insurance on the home.
The home was perceived by the suspect to be owned by a family of Jewish faith, and as a result was targeted amidst a spree of hateful vandalism which took place the same evening.
In the wake of this tragedy, an opportunity has presented itself to show that communities are stronger together. Pine Lake Park will be a shining example of how love can overcome hate.
Angel and Brenda Rivas were highschool sweethearts, they have been together 14 years and married for 11 years. They have two beautiful daughters ages 10 and 2. Brenda has lived in Pine Lake Park her entire life and had always dreamed of building a home there in which to raise her daughters.
The Rivas family began their dream in 2017 when Brenda, Angel, and her parents spent their life savings on a lot in Pine Lake Park. They saved everything they could and even sold their business in order to kickstart their build. They broke ground October of 2022, and were very close to completion. The family of 6 planned to move into their home this fall.
Our Goal is to come together and lift this family up, make them whole again, and have a safe home built with love pouring out from their community.
