Rebuild Shannon's Jaw- Sept 29
Donation protected
Final date for Surgery: September 29th
In March 2021, I was referred to a surgeon after abnormalities appeared in my skull x-rays and ct scans following complaints of chronic pain and chewing/eating problems.
The official diagnosis is a combination of things: one side of my jaw has significant and unexplained bone loss, or "idiopathic condylar resorption." I have no condyle on that side of my jaw. On the other side of my jaw, I have some "tumorous growth" happening in the jaw- some surgeons call it "hypertrophic growth."
The result of these competing bone conditions is abnormal skeletal development, chronic pain, muscle tension, neck pain, chewing and eating limitations, major sleeping disturbances, and an ever-decreasing airway diameter (aka my ability to suck in oxygen is limited).
I have a long road ahead of me:
My procedure is scheduled on Sept 29- I am having "lefort" surgery (upper jaw rotation), tm joint replacement, genioplasty, and a few other little things done. All of this will be done at the same time.
I'll be on a liquid diet for 4-6 weeks or longer. I am taking at least 4 weeks off work to recover.
Costs: The custom joint replacements cost 20k out of pocket, and our deductible is around 8k. After paying 12k out of pocket for orthodontics, and an additional 5k on pre-surgical therapies and pain support, we're looking at a whopping 45K out of pocket when all is said and done. We had major hopes that my new insurance company would cover more costs, but we've hit a wall. So, I'm back to the GoFundMe!!!!
