Rebuild the Future: Support the Jackson Family

PLEASE HELP LOCAL REGENERATIVE FARM DEVASTATED BY FIRES AND IN CRISIS

To our amazing community,

We're a group of friends rallying together to support Richelle & Byron Jackson and their three young boys. The Jacksons run a small regenerative dairy farm situated in the beautiful Bega Valley.

After a painstaking rebuild after the black summer fires three years ago, our hearts are breaking to know that the October 3rd grass fire that erupted at a neighbouring property in Coolagolite, swept through their paddocks due to extreme weather conditions and devastated their farm for the second time in three years.

With minimal time to react, approximately 550 acres of paddocks were scorched, causing extensive damage to major feed stores, fencing, animal water supply, water pumps, trees and livestock.

They've expressed their exhaustion, stating, "We are at an absolute breaking point, finding it difficult to envision how we can rebuild once more."

Our target of raising $30,000 will go towards immediate damage control to purchase animal feed, secure fencing supplies to keep animals safe and facilitate repairs of irrigation systems and pumps to ensure water supply for the animals, however the reality is hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of damage and this family is going to need ongoing support to get back on their feet. We understand that these times are challenging for everyone but know with your heartfelt contributions we can rally to exceed this initial target to make a difference to this family and help save their courageous small business in this dark hour. Any contribution big or small is immensely appreciated.

If you’re unable to contribute at this time, we kindly ask that you share this campaign with friends and family to help spread the word and help us reach our goal. This family has worked so hard to make a small but significant difference for our planet. Together we can make a difference to help rebuild their hope and their livelihood.

More about the Jackson's farm:

In the face of the growing challenges of climate change, this inspiring family have worked tirelessly to uphold an example of how modern agriculture can change to stop depletion of the land and its biodiversity, creating completely chemical free pastures, fencing off waterways and planting them with over 7000 natives to produce nature corridors, microcosms and sequester carbon. Despite endless obstacles, they have held their commitment to upholding the highest ethical standards in their sustainable farming practices, caring deeply for the land and their livestock and using zero single-use plastic packaging to deliver local fresh milk to our community.

Where your money is going:

Since enduring massive damage to their farm in the 2020 fires and the hardship of drought the Jacksons were only able to afford limited insurance. Right now their priority is insuring food, water and fencing for their main herd. Any extra funds raised will go directly towards replacing essential machinery, fencing, water management equipment and labour.
