Rebuild Teleza's Home in Malawi
Donation protected
Teleza and her children need a new home. Their situation and that of others in my Malawian family became desparate over the past couple of years, because of drought that made it impossible to get by on subsistance farming. My husband and I have sent monies regulary to assist with daily needs and purchase fertilizers. The drought is easing and new crops are improving. However, cousin Teleza's current home (see below) is to old to be repaired, and the roof leaks badly during the daily rains of rainy season.
I first met Teleza when my sister and I visited Malawi in 1995. She was just ~15 then but obviously sharp, good humored, and on a positive track. Teleza has since grown into woman with her own family (below). Her father, my Dad's brother, has passed away, along with all of the others in their generation. My other cousins often look to her for support, and she is viewed as fair and trustworthy in this role.
We plan to keep supporting the family but can't manage the full costs of rebuilding their home. Teleza, has started to move forward anyway, purchasing the bricks and getting them fired -- below you see her the new bricks being laid by her brother and husband in the background. However, there are many more materials that need to be purchased and some labor that the family will need to hire to complete their home.
Please consider making a contribution. Your gift will make a tremendous, long-term difference for this hardworking family, and I will greatly appreciate it as well. Zikomo (Thank you!)
