Rebuild Waleska's House

Donation protected
Many of you will recognize my cousin, Waleska Curet, shown here with her husband, Rafy.  She was the one who received dozens of boxes sent from around the country in our Operation Boxes for Puerto Rico project. She and her daughters picked up these boxes at the post office, sorted out the contents, rebagged them, loaded up the car, and went among strangers in neighboring communities to distribute aid to victims of hurricane María, helping over 100 families over the course of six weeks.

Now Waleska and her family need our help! During the last 2-1/2 years, they have been building their own home with their own hands and the sweat off their backs, using what money they had scraped together from their salaries. They had walls up, electricity and water hooked up, and were about to put the roof on the house. Their goal was to be in their own house by December.

Then huricane María hit, and all of their efforts, and the $7,000 they had spent on materials, were reduced to a pile of rubble.  Putting aside their own needs, Rafy and Waleska selflessly cleaned neighbors yards and helped the elderly, plus distributed the hurrucane relief items we sent, as mentioned above. But when they applied to FEMA for disaster relief to rebuild their home, they were denied on the grounds that they were not living in the house that they were building.  How could they be living in an unfinished house that was still missing the roof? They had been living in a tiny two bedroom rented house with a leaky roof. Two of their three daughters were even sleeping on the floor.

I believe God can use us to bless Rafy, Waleska, and the girls for the generosity of spirit they have been showing to others during this time of crisis in Puerto Rico. If we all pitch in, we can replace the $7,000 that they need to rebuild their home to where it was before the hurricane, or even more than that to provide what they will need to complete the construction.  Any amount donated, no matter how small, would be a blessing.  Please, let's start today. Thank you, and God bless you!
