We Lost Everything In The Malibu Fire

This post is so hard to write. I have barely slept since Tuesday. I have never been happier than my time in Malibu. After losing all my belongings several years ago because of something different, these last few years have been about re-building intentionally, only calling in the people, places and things that brought me joy. I was doing that with an amazing partner. To lose everything once again feels like the same gut punch I spent the last few years healing from. That is why this is so personally devastating.

The fire was too strong when it descended on Big Rock, and the fire department made a decision to surrender our mountain so they could focus on neighborhoods that had a better chance. They didn't have the resources so they were called to back down. Our homes were left to burn, our people left to die. Most of our mountain was decimated.

One thing I know from my own life experience is that I will look back on these days at some point in the future and know that everything happened for my greater good. Nothing happens in God's world by mistake. For now, however, there is a long road ahead. I hate asking for help (we both do) but I also know that many people want to give. Insurance is basically providing nothing because we already filed a claim this pay period when we got evacuated last month in another wildfire. If you are able to give something, any amount will help.
