Rebuilding After the Devastation of the Fires.

It is with a heavy heart that our family starts off 2020. My brother Scott and his gorgeous family have just lost everything to the bushfires.

Scott has spent the last few months fighting fires to help save other people’s homes. Sadly, he was fighting the fires in Batemans Bay when he found out that his own home was under threat. He made it back to the property at 2am after fighting fires all day and battled the blaze on his own for six hours.

Unfortunately our extraordinarily brave, hardworking and sleep deprived heroes are desperately stretched at the moment and there was no one able to help him when he needed it most. Limited manpower coupled with a crippling drought meant that all of the odds were stacked against him and it only took one rogue ember to destroy their world.

As his house burned, he tried to save their animals by hosing them down and opening the paddock gates but in pure terror they kept returning and there was nothing he could do. I am certain that this will haunt him forever.

We are all just so grateful that my family escaped with their lives; devastatingly other families in the area paid the highest price while defending their homes. Our hearts bleed for them.

While we count ourselves lucky, the future is daunting. At the moment they are still operating in disbelief and numbness but the harsh reality of what has been lost is starting to sink in. Their days ahead will be filled with a sense of overwhelming loss and despair.

I appreciate those that have reached out asking how they can help. I have started this GoFundMe on their behalf to help them get by over the next few months. Scott only managed to save their laptops so they will be starting from scratch and will need everything from accommodation to school supplies. Scott, Zoe, Eva & Lila need all the help they can get.

Understandably, not everybody is in a position to help out and it is certainly not expected. Your words of support help. For those who can and are able to, it’s so ever greatly appreciated.

Our thoughts are with all of those affected throughout Australia as our nation burns and communities are destroyed, families suffer and our wildlife & flora are decimated. Devastating times.

Stay safe.
