WHO IS CAKEBOI? KHAYRI AYERS
I am the offspring of two Black parents who are leading the way for their family to have financial freedom and generational wealth in New York City’s land of opportunity and oppression.
My Mother & Fathers hustling spirit was imbedded in me at birth.
Baking was not the most conventional choice for a 12 year old, but with thanks to my grandmother, I couldn’t help but fall in love with it. With my grandmother’s passion and my parents hustle and drive, I began baking cakes and packaging slices to sell on Fulton Street. I gave out fliers everywhere I went. As word spread, I became known as the Cake Boi, and thus began my journey to the business you all know today.
After honing my skills in my grandmother’s kitchen, taking classes, improving my skills and saving my money, and team up with the right people, I was ready to open my own shop. There was no question that it would be in any other neighbourhood than the gritty backdrop to my parents stories, where I transitioned into adulthood, where I met my closest friends, where I cultivated my love for the community, and the place always representing rich Black culture. I knew it had to be in the Brooklyn neighborhood of Bed Stuy.
My business had gone from pushing a cart of slices down Fulton Street, Bed Stuy, to having a store front on that very same block.
I am still that same Cake Boi, I put all my heart into my work and providing for the celebrations of my community.
The Stuy is my home, and Cake Boi is the essence of the neighbourhood that raised me.
I NEED YOUR HELP TO REBULD THE CAKE BOI HOME
On Sunday 1st of March, Cake Boi was broken into, and everything inside the premises was stolen.
I had closed the shop for a month while I worked on new city permits, insurances and business set up after successfully negotiating to take over the business completely from my early investors.
Cake Boi was finally all my own. I had worked so tirelessly to get to this point, ready to take the next step into my own financial freedom.
But on that night, someone took everything from me that I had worked towards since I was 12 years old. When I say they took everything, I meant the shop was left stripped and empty. My tools for cake decorating are gone, cake pans, fridges, freezers, supplies, my whole business.
I very quickly decided to move to a new bigger location, because I believe this minor setback is preparing me for a MAJOR COMEBACK.
Starting this business hasn’t been easy, but my support system is large and strong.
With the unending support of my Mother & Father, they have encouraged me to reach out and accept the offers of support that have been flooding in over the last 48 hours to help rebuild CakeBoi.
WHAT DO I NEED TO REBUILD?
Reopening a new bigger and location will cost more than $100,000.
I have set up this Go Fund Me to bring CakeBoi back to the people as quickly as possible.
