Rebuild with Communities in Post-earthquake Turkey
Donation protected
Hi,
Almost a month ago, Southeastern Turkey and Northern Syria were struck by two devastating earthquakes. This was a catastrophe of enormous scale that impacted millions of people in the area and took away more than 50,000 lives. As we move beyond the emergency relief, we need to take action for long-term recovery and reconstruction of the cities in the affected area.
Many local and international organizations have been working hard to provide aid and support to those affected by the disaster. One of these organizations is Architecture for All (Herkes İçin Mimarlık) which I've been actively supporting as a member for the past 11 years. This non-profit has a proven record of working with local communities around Turkey and implementing construction projects through participatory processes with the help of volunteers.
The organization has put together a plan (more info here ) to build social gathering spaces in the city of Kahramanmaraş using earthquake-resilient building techniques. These spaces will serve as places for bonding and healing for people experiencing challenging conditions. The building techniques will also set a precedent for communities to replicate as they build other structures.
Architecture for All has already started organizing workshops to develop designs and established connections with local authorities in the city. The money raised through this platform will be used to purchase material for the implementation of the project.
More info about the organization can be found on this website.
I appreciate all your support. Thank you for your time and support on behalf of Architecture for All.
