Rebuilding Hope and Home for Rosalina and Rene Rodriguez

The Loss

Like many in the Altadena/Pasadena community, our parents, Rosalina and Rene Rodriguez, have been deeply affected by the devastating Eaton Fire. Their home of nearly 40 years (located in the White Park Area of Altadena, Ca) —a place filled with love, memories, and hard work—has been reduced to rubble and ash.

With mere moments to spare, our parents evacuated, prioritizing safety over belongings. My father, Rene, returned in hopes of salvaging what he could, only to find our family home engulfed in flames. Now, they face the daunting task of rebuilding their lives, from basic necessities to creating a new home.

Their Story

Our mother, Rosalina, has spent over 40 years as a cornerstone of our community. From her days as an active PTSA parent at Jackson Elementary to her pivotal roles at PUSD and especially at John Muir High School, she has been a constant source of support, encouragement, and care. At John Muir High, she became a mother figure to countless students—offering tea, sandwiches, and a safe space to those in need. She was the wellness center before wellness centers existed.

Our father, Rene, has worked tirelessly since his youth to build a life of stability and opportunity for his family. As a young boy from El Salvador, he faced countless struggles, but he turned those hardships into strength, generosity, and a relentless work ethic. His dream was to pass down the family home as a legacy to his children and grandchildren. That dream now lies in ashes.

Como muchas otras familias en la comunidad de Altadena/Pasadena, nuestros padres, Rosalina y René Rodríguez, han sido profundamente afectados por el devastador incendio Eaton. Su hogar de casi 40 años (ubicado en el área de White Park en Altadena, California), un lugar lleno de amor, recuerdos y arduo trabajo, ha quedado reducido a escombros y cenizas.

Con solo unos momentos para escapar, nuestros padres evacuaron, priorizando la seguridad sobre sus pertenencias. Mi padre, René, regresó con la esperanza de salvar algo, pero se encontró con nuestro hogar familiar completamente envuelto en llamas. Ahora enfrentan la difícil tarea de reconstruir sus vidas, desde cubrir necesidades básicas hasta crear un nuevo hogar.

Su Historia

Nuestra madre, Rosalina, ha dedicado más de 40 años como un pilar de nuestra comunidad. Desde sus días como madre activa en la PTSA de la Primaria Jackson hasta sus papeles clave en el Distrito Escolar Unificado de Pasadena (PUSD), y especialmente en la Preparatoria John Muir, siempre ha sido una fuente constante de apoyo, aliento y cuidado. En John Muir, se convirtió en una figura materna para innumerables estudiantes, ofreciendo té, sándwiches y un espacio seguro para quienes lo necesitaban. Ella era el centro de bienestar antes de que existieran los espacios de bienestar en las escuelas.

Nuestro padre, René, ha trabajado incansablemente desde su juventud para construir una vida de estabilidad y oportunidades para su familia. Como un joven de El Salvador, enfrentó innumerables desafíos, pero transformó esas dificultades en fortaleza, generosidad y una ética de trabajo inquebrantable. Su sueño era heredar el hogar familiar como un legado para sus hijos y nietos. Ese sueño ahora se ha desvanecido en cenizas.
