Tear it Down *** Build a New One!
We are going to make it happen, demolish our old building and construct a new one in its place. It’s time! “Someday” is now. Our Legionnaires, Auxiliary, and Litchfield residents will have a new home to hold meetings, conduct business, celebrate special events, and make happy memories.
William R. Bold, American Legion Post #181, Litchfield Maine, is replacing its 1957 Quonset style building. It is aging at an accelerated rate. The sills are rotting, the roof is bowed, and the ceiling and walls are coming apart. Rodents and flies have become permanent residents, and mold and mildew are obvious upon entry. We have to tear it down and build a new one.
For several years we have used traditional methods of fundraising in order to secure an adequate Building Fund. Residents from Litchfield and surrounding towns have been generous with donations and support. We are grateful for their help and acknowledge their gifts of time and money. Unfortunately, the deterioration of our building is growing faster than our savings account. It is a struggle to pay our bills, subsidize programs we are committed to, and put money aside for a safe and functional building. For this reason, we have started a Go Fund Me Campaign, and are hopeful it will be successful.
The decision has been made to proceed with the demolition phase of our project. This will begin soon and is expected to be costly. We will post updates of the process and look forward to the next steps of our rebuild.
Our gratitude for any size donation is immeasurable.
