Rebuilding Naomi’s Home: Trans Caribbean Nicaraguan Queen victim of Hurricane Iota

Naomi is an afro caribbean Nicaraguan trans activist, entertainer and social worker who has dedicated her life to empowering her LGBT afro community, as well as supporting a foster home for kids victims of abuse. At the end of 2020, hurricane Iota hit the caribbean coast and completely destroyed the house where both Naomi and her mother lived. Even though Naomi has been prominent in organizing and helping out her community, she has been excluded from the little assistance that has arrived due to discrimination, even having to go through the burden of being blamed for the dissaster because of her identity. The loss of all her material possessions has forced Naomi to live in temporary, crowded spaces, where she is at risk of contracting COVID and where she depends on charity to fulfill her basic human needs.

We are making a call for local and international solidarity to help Naomi rebuild her home and her life. Right now, we are aiming for 1000 USD so that Naomi can rebuild the basic structure of her house from scratch, but more funds will be greatly appreciated to help her replace the basic material possessions she lost: clothing, food, appliances, etc.

100% of the funds received will be destined towards the reconstruction of Naomi’s home. Let’s help Naomi rebuild her home, so that she can continue helping her community.

This campaign in organized by a group of mutual volunteers and not a registered organization, our collaborator Gabriel Perez will be retrieving the GoFundMe donations and sending them through Western Union to Nicaragua so that they can be later distributed to Naomi.

ESPANOL
