Rebuilding our world after the Palisades Fire
Donation protected
Like so many of our friends and neighbors, on the night of January 7th our house burned to the ground. My mom, Nora, who bought this house in 2009, has worked her entire life to make sure me and my 3 siblings are housed, cared for, and loved has lost everything she's ever owned. I'm still completely sick to my stomach writing this as parts of my conscious refuse to believe this is real.
I had been going back and forth about creating a fund. Truthfully, I think many of the victims in the Palisades have. There is a stigma to doing it, there are feelings of shame and embarrassment. But this community is now recovering from an unthinkable event.
As I thought longer about making a page dedicated to my mom and 665 Swarthmore Ave., here's what I came up with... if I were to throw a gathering or party in memorial for this house in either LA, NY, or Jersey, I'm sure you all would bring over flowers or wine or something nice for my family. But rather than spend that money on those items, I want to collect here in this fund to be able to buy my mom new clothes or a good piece of furniture in her next home, wherever she decides that will be.
My mom saw beauty and style in the world. She spent her entire life collecting funky art pieces, amazing antiques, and home decor just as her mother (my grandma) did. It's all fucking gone, vanished overnight. This is a pain I hope nobody has to experience.
This fund is going to be split evenly in thirds. One third is going to go towards my mom rebuilding her life with clothes and furniture. One third will go directly to other GoFundMe's from families in our town dealing with the same tragedy. One third will be spread to different organizations that have pledged to rebuild the Pacific Palisades. I've already been overwhelmed from all the love I've seen come out of this. As a community, we're going eat this one on the chin and come back swinging. #Longlivelades
