Rebuilding Rec Park in Binghamton

My name is Jaylene Rodriguez O’Garro. I’m a former student at Johnson City High School, and was raised in Broome County. I have created this campaign with B.C. cartoonist Mason Mastroianni, after seeing news of the damage at Recreation Park.

After a peaceful protests died down on the afternoon of May 31st, agitators set fire to the Our Space playground section in the early morning hours of the following day.

Our family And I have a deep tie to our home community, and a personal connection to the park. We would like to help rebuild the playground as quickly as possible.

All donations to this GoFundMe will be delivered to the Community Foundation of South Central NY and are tax deductible. The Foundation was behind the initial construction of the playground, and will handle this rebuild. The money raised will be spent to rebuild the Our Space Playground. This would include but is not limited to: costs of actual playground equipment, fencing if needed, special equipment to aid in accessibility, survey costs to stake out the area, etc. We have added Darlene Cempa to the team, who will facilitate this process.

-Recreation Park is a public, urban park on the West side of Binghamton, bordering Laurel Avenue and Beethoven Streets. It was founded by shoe manufacturer George F. Johnson, and is home to one of his six famous carousels in the area.
