HELP REBUILD OUR BELOVED HOOPHOUSE AFTER THE FIRE
Dear Friends and Supporters,
Detroit Abloom suffered a terrible fire at our hoophouse this week, leaving us with nothing but ashes where once there was life and growth. Nancy noticed smoke and ran out with a fire extinguisher but the fire was growing fast and thankfully the Detroit Fire Department responded quickly. While investigating, the Fire Inspector pointed to a faulty propane tank valve as the likely cause of the fire. Luckily Tom, Nancy and beloved cat Nutmeg are safe, even though the large fire occurred just feet from their home. A large section of the structure, shelving, equipment, and all the beautiful plants we were nurturing for this season were lost in the flames. While the loss has been heartbreaking, our determination to rebuild is stronger than ever.
We’re reaching out to our wonderful community to ask for your support in breathing life back into this vital space. This hoophouse was so much more than walls and plants—it was a space where dreams took root, where connections blossomed, and where our community came together to learn, share, and grow. It was a source of joy and renewal, a place where hands dug into the earth and spirits soared.
Your contributions will help us:
• Replace the hoophouse lining structure, shelving, tools and equipment.
• Purchase new plant materials so we can have a successful season despite this unfortunate setback.
Every contribution, no matter the size, is a seed of hope that brings us closer to rebuilding and reviving the heart of our community. Together, we can rebuild and create an even stronger hoophouse that continues to inspire and serve.
Let’s grow together once more. Thank you for believing in us and standing by our side in this moment of need.
With deepest gratitude,
Tom, Nancy & The Board of Detroit Abloom
