Hi, my name is Lori and I was involved with helping Lori Briggs the trapper catch a Great Dane that was running all around Brooksville for the last 2 weeks. It's a miracle this dog lived long enough to be trapped, between the excessive heat, running across multiple very busy roads and not alone Danes are susceptible to bloat.
Some professional trappers charge HUNDREDS to come and do this, Lori does not ask for any money, she uses her money to do all of this; not alone her time spent. She has spent a lot of money on equipment that includes various-size traps, enclosures, snares, and camera systems that allow the trap to be monitored 24/7.
Besides the initial setup cost, there is always recurring cost like replacing batteries, replacing pieces that may get damaged or broke, and of course not to mention the hours she spends doing this. Besides the obvious cost of gas, she also buys various foods to cook to make it irresistible for the dog to enter the trap, bacon, sausages, even KFC after the cats were eating all the food! Yes, she brings a grill and cooks food to put in the trap! All of this adds up in this crazy economy and people are dumping dogs like crazy.
Lori drove 3 hours one way to set up a safe cruelty-free crate to trap the dog, spent hours looking while she was in this area, got home at midnight, and then has to monitor the camera throughout the night for activity and then gets up and does her full-time job. Luckily this dog was captured the first night the trap was put out, if it was not captured with the trap that was brought, the plan was to bring a larger encloser that has a much more complicated setup and would require Lori to sit somewhere close all night to monitor in case it had to be reset. The bottom line, she will not stop until the dog is safe. The dog is now safe, but Lori now has to drive the 6 hours round trip again to get her equipment back.
Let's do what we can to help, for this rescue and the next... And there is always a next. Who knows, it could be your dog she is trying to catch!
