Help Us Expand Our Community Garden

Donation protected
What started as a covid garden project between lifelong friends became a dream worth striving for. Originally just a tiny corner of the backyard, our garden has since grown to encompass about 2,000+ square feet. And what originally produced a few tomatoes and okra and beans, last year produced over 500lbs of produce! Now it’s time to go all in, and to be honest, we’re going to need some community support…
WHY:
We found out a year ago that the privacy fence in our backyard not only didn’t mark the property line, it actually cut us off from roughly 1/3 of the property. That’s roughly 8,000 square feet! AND, this lot is a perfectly positioned, southern exposed lot that could produce a significant benefit for our community through the creation of a small urban farm. After much discussion, the formation of an LLC, and a lot of hard work, we’re finally ready to clear the land and fully expand into what will become a 10,000 square foot urban farm! However, it’s going to require a lot more work, and the support of our community.

COSTS:
The total cost to clear the land, turn the soil, plant a cover crop, and fence it all in to protect it is adding up to $15,000, and that’s with us doing all the labor!
We have done and redone the math on this project. We have crunched all the numbers for materials, tool rentals, and everything else this is going to take. No matter how we slice this, it’s adding up to $15K.

Now, we’ve already done all the work up until this point, so we’re no strangers to getting things done. We’ve also funded everything ourselves up to this point. We have a plan, we’ve broken the plan into phases, and we understand what it’s going to take to realize this dream. We also know that based on these projected costs, we simply can’t do this without the kindness and help of all of you. If we can rally the people to help get us over this hurdle and reach our goal, we can have this urban farm up and running on all cylinders starting in 2025, with a hefty increase in produce and flowers possible this year.

GOAL:
Raise $15,000 through our GoFundMe campaign this spring.
Each linear foot of fence is going to cost about $24, and there’s 570 feet to put up.
The clearing and tilling of the land is going to cost $3,300.

Think of it this way: If we can get 150 people to donate $100 each, we’re there.
This only represents the money we can’t generate personally. We’ve earmarked and set aside as much as we can to put towards this ourselves. We’ve also already purchased the tiller, seeds, stakes, water reclamation rain barrels, seed starting trays, soil amendments, fertilizer, and all other things needed to keep this going.

Our goal is to be fully transparent with our intentions and the use of these funds, while we completely reclaim and protect the entirety of our property to be repurposed as a small scale urban farm. We will be sharing this mission through social media throughout the process, with updates and pictures and videos. We will be scheduling out the phases of work based on how quickly the funds can be raised.

GRATITUDE:
We can't thank our community enough for their support. We appreciate any contribution, however big or small, in our journey to realizing this dream. If you believe in what we’re doing, and you can contribute in any way, thank you. If you want to share our story and know anyone who can help, please pass it along. We know the kind of impact we can have if we pull this off. We know how important it is to reclaim our power and grow our own food, and teach others how to do it in whatever way they can. We plan to offer educational classes on every step of the process, from creating a seed starting mix, germinating and sprouting seeds, transplanting, hardening off, prepping for planting, getting things in the ground, avoiding pest and disease issues, plant care through weed control, fertilizing, and watering, all the way to harvesting and preserving fruits and vegetables. We will have recipes, how-to videos, and all things in-between. So please, help us if you can, and plant a donation with Delicious Best so we can grow into our full potential!
