Roots MVMT: Honoring 40 yrs of Filipino Culture in Canada

Donation protected
This project was created to recognize and pass down the Filipino values of what Mr. Bert "Barangay" David maintained for 40 years in Canada.

For without a culture and deep roots to trace back to, we would not have a strong identity for expressing ourselves, knowing how to unify our unique differences and stand in solidarity "BAYANIHAN"

Please donate to our GOFUNDME to help spread Mr. Barangay's Legacy to inspire our generations to respect and be proud of their origins.

HISTORY
Forty years ago, upon witnessing the innate Spirit of Dance within his children, he felt a profound calling to nurture their talents within a community steeped in strong values, deep-rooted traditions, and a sense of security, allowing them to fully embrace their authentic selves in the vibrant tapestry of their birth country, Canada.

What began with six young Canadian-Filipina girls, accompanied by a basement brimming with crafted traditional instruments, bamboo creations, textiles, and props meticulously gathered and handmade by him, blossomed into a vibrant Barangay (a Family of Families) that flourished over four decades. Thus emerged The Philippine Barangay Performing Arts Society, a testament to his dedication and vision.

The Roots MVMT Tour, spanning from Canada to the Philippines from July 20 to August 20, 2024, and extending into the future under the guidance of his successors and his daughter, Dianna David, serves as a poignant reminder for us all.

It urges us to honor our origins, embracing the celebrations, traditions, dances, music, and stories passed down by our Ancestors. Like the bamboo, able to bend and adapt to the winds of change as we branch out into the world, yet remain strong and resilient from where we root from.

From our family to yours, maraming salamat sa iyong napakalaking suporta! Thank you very much for you generous support!
