Recovering our home after Harvey
Donation protected
My name is Beatriz Mendoza. We are a family of four Abel Hernandez, my husband, Camila 18 going to college HBU, and Daniel Junior at Westside HS.
It has been quite and adventure and an extreme experience what we and thousands of families in our neighborhood have been through.
We arrived in 2009 full of dreams. We have worked extremely hard to be successful academically and professionally. It took us 8 years to have the little things we had. And I say “had” because unfortunately we have lost everything. Our home is under 3.6 – 4.0 meters of water. So, our expectations of going are very limited since we lived in de red and evacuated zone. They are not allowing people to go home and try to salvage some things. due to risk of alligators in the water, snakes and extremely polluted water. Authorities cut power and water is not available. They say that since water from the reservoir is still going to flow out for at least 10-12 more days, things are still tough and chaotic. Then we will try to go home and check if, for any rare chance, we can keep any salvageable some things of our house. We already made our minds that since water reached the second floor, all the things that we put upstairs are also damage. Things are so sad. We are so many families, all our friends live in the same area, most of them are in the same situation as we are. Is so devastating. Everybody needs help!!!
As we are trying to recover from the shock and losing everything. We know we have so many amazing and giving friends who have been asking us to start this fundraising despite me being so reluctant to do it because I feel that we are not the only ones. But as many friends reach to us asking how to help and telling us to open the furnishing, well here we are!
Abel, Camila, Daniel, Shuyler (our dog) and me, Beatriz Mendoza-Hernandez have been so blessed because despite 3 mandatory evacuations we have been able to manage, have a roof and hot meals and clean clothes thanks to the donations of some friends. We only left home with our phones, important papers in a plastic bag and our dog. No time or way to take anything else.
We are #houstonstrong and hoping that this is the beginning of something new, for our family, our community and our city. #welovehouston
There are no words to say: GRACIAS , THANK YOU, TACK for being so generous and give your heart with your donation.
We are currently looking for a new place to live, trying to get Camila ready to go to her first day of university. She was and is very excited about this. She lost all the books, and things she already had ready. But we are confident in God, Our Beloved Father that we are going to be just fine. We want things to be as normal as possible. Not only for us, we want to be involved, as a family, in volunteering to help others in need.
We really want to THANK YOU ALL for helping us from wherever in the world you are. There are not words to explain what it really means to us Abel, Daniel, Camila, and me,Beatriz . Any help we can get and continue passing the help to others.
If you can please post and share this on your wall.
Thank, God Bless you and please keep Houston and hell these families in need in your prayers. We really need them.
