Recovery and care for Odin

Hi, my name is Chris Dufault and I am raising money for my niece Emmalee.

On October 8th, Emmalee and a “trusted” friend took her 1 year old son Odin to the farm. She watched him as he laughed and enjoyed the hay bales, fall leaves and picking pumpkins for the first time. The next day while out and about Emmalee left her baby in the truck with the same “trusted”friend while she ran into a store to get a can of formula. When she returned she noticed that little Odin’s breathing just didn’t sound quite right. She got out of the truck to check on him and realized that the one year old was having a seizure. Emmalee immediately called 911 and little Odin was rushed to the hospital.

The doctors told Emmalee they had gotten Odin into surgery “just in time” because he had a massive blood clot and brain bleed. The diagnosis was traumatic brain injury.

Odin has been in critical condition and under heavy sedation fighting for his life since his surgery. Although he is responding to Emmalee’s touch, grabbing on to her hand when she holds his, he isn’t out of the woods yet. They are giving him medication and lots of fluids which are causing his little body to swell up quite a bit and they are still unable to reattach the piece of his skull they had to remove to access the clot and bleed. The doctors have given Emmalee the worst case scenario, her little boy, who has just begun to walk and talk and see things for the first time now has a very difficult and long road ahead of him.

As you can imagine, this is a very difficult time for Emmalee and our entire family. The hardest part being the unknown. Odin will be in the hospital for months, medical expenses are accumulating and the need for specialized doctors now and in Odin’s future will add to those expenses. Emmalee is missing work to be at the hospital with her baby and still has to pay for her regular monthly bills as well as whatever medical expenses are not covered by her high deductible medical insurance. Emmalee will also incur legal expenses to get “Justice for Odin.”

We are asking that you give Emmalee and the rest of the family some space at this time.

Since the “trusted” friend has been arrested and there is an ongoing investigation, I will not be posting updates on Odin’s condition since to this a public forum.
