Recovery Fund for Corinne Bell (Cora Bell)

Cora Bell suffered a venomous spider bite on Monday July 8th resulting in hospitalization. On Thursday she arrived to the emergency room where she was treated for Cellulitis and sent home with an oral antibiotic. As the day went by on Friday, her health was rapidly declining. She returned to the hospital with a fever, chills and flu like symptoms and was immediately hooked up to IV's for fluids and antibiotics. At first glance they took precaution and began treating her for sepsis while unaware of what was causing the ulcerating and damaging tissue to spread. They did many blood tests to try and target the specimen in which infected her. She was arranged to have a consultation with a surgeon for the following morning.
On Saturday the surgeon took more blood samples an sent her for an ultra sound of her leg and felt at that point it just need to be watched with caution. Later that night there was no change in the local area of the bite and pain became unbearable and another surgeon gave his opinion feeling very strongly that surgery was necessary to stop the infection from spreading. The Dr who gave the second opinion had a phone conference with the local surgeon and they decided that Cora have a irrigation an debridement the following morning.
Sunday morning (July 14th) Cora went in for surgery and while the Dr. was doing surgery he was able to see the canals that lead to two black dots where the fangs of the spider attached and injected the area of Cora's leg with venom. In order to remove all the infected tissue caused by the bite he had to cut all the way down to the fatuous layer above the muscle leaving a deep large surfaced hole in her leg .
In order for Cora's leg to heal properly, she has to wear a wound vac- which heals the wound from the inside out leaving less chance of a severe infection. Her wound care consists of wearing it twenty four hours a day 7 days a week until its healed and will require her to have in-home care 3 days a week to change the dressing, seal and canister. She had a long week at the hospital and had quite a few bumps before she was stable and they were confident she was ready to go home.
Recovery will take months as she will have her wound vac for a total of 2-3 months and it will take longer for the wound to heal completely.
Cora has always been there for me any time I've needed her as well as countless friends and this time she needs our help while she is recovering. While life has certainly had to slow down for Cora these past few weeks, the bills are still coming and she has herself and her 6 year old daughter Nevaeh to care for. This experience was truly eye-opening and a very scary situation for Cora to go through. It's crazy to think that a spider bite could do so much and has put a lot into perspective for herself.
This recovery fund will help Cora pay her bills/living expenses, put some protection in place Nevaeh, and help Cora put the final touches on her own transportation business that she started months ago and was just at the finish line when she ended up being hospitalized.
